Look and Find

The students are expected to establish the role of Internet and WWW as a tool for communication and construction in education.

Look for good apps or websites that you can use as a way to communicate with each other and as a tool for constructing activities and projects. Give the feature of the app or website and indicate how you can use and apply them in the field of education or in the classroom.

Tools for Communication
Name of App/Website
Features
When to Use or Apply
Facebook
Facebook is a popular free social networking website that allows registered users to create profiles, upload photos and video, send messages and keep in touch with friends, family and colleagues. The site, which is available in 37 different languages, includes public features such as:
Marketplace - allows members to post, read and respond to classified ads.
Groups - allows members who have common interests to find each other and interact.
Events- allows members to publicize an event, invite guests and track who plans to attend.
Pages - allows members to create and promote a public page built around a specific topic.
Presence technology - allows members to see which contacts are online and chat.
Can be used when you want to contact a person or send a file or message to him or her.
Skype
Skype offers a number of features based around calling (both free and paid), messaging (including instant, voice and text messaging (SMS)), video chat, and file and screen sharing.
You can used it if you want to see the person you are communicating with through video chat.
Viber
In addition to instant messaging, users can exchange images, video and audio media messages by sending files to each other. As of December 2016, Viber had 800 million registered users.
Allows you to make calls as well as send text, photo, and video messages to other Viber users free of charge. It’s an inexpensive and useful way to chat with friends and family abroad, or without using minutes on your cell phone’s plan. You can make calls and send texts via Wi-Fi or your 3G data on your mobile device as well as from a computer, using the desktop app. Viber requires either a 3G or Wi-Fi connection to work and if you’re not connected to a Wi-Fi network, it will use your 3G data to place calls or send texts.
Email
E-mail (electronic mail) is the exchange of computer-stored messages by telecommunication. (Some publications spell it email; we prefer the currently more established spelling of e-mail.) E-mail messages are usually encoded in ASCII text.
However, you can also send non-text files, such as graphic images and sound files, as attachments sent in binary streams. E-mail was one of the first uses of the Internet and is still the most popular use. A large percentage of the total traffic over the Internet is e-mail. E-mail can also be exchanged between online service provider users and in networks other than the Internet, both public and private.

Tools of Construction
Name of App/Website
Features
When to Use or Apply
Windows Movie Maker
Is a software where you can create your own videos and slide show. You can insert cool effects and music and recordings.
You can you this software if you want to make a video to present for your lesson. Or create a slideshow for your pictures when discussing in class.
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Word offers a variety of useful features. Spell check is a basic feature provided within the program that allows users to check proper spelling within their documents. Grammar checking is a popular feature that allows users to check punctuation, sentence structure and other basic grammar issues.

Microsoft Word allows users to alter the appearance of text easily by changing its colour, font style and size. The document is easily saved as a file on a computer or other media device and retrieved whenever needed for editing, sharing or printing.

Cut and paste features included in Microsoft Word allow users to copy text or images from various sources and paste them directly into Word documents. Users are able to create and format custom tables and graphs, as well.
You can use this when creating hand outs for your students. It also great for making activities and examinations and other assessments.
Microsoft PowerPoint
Microsoft PowerPoint allows users to create virtual slide show presentations displaying text, images, shapes and videos. Customization features for PowerPoint 2013 let users add animated effects to the content and transitions between slides, such as fading slides in and out. Sound clips can be inserted to play audio during presentations, and slides are printable for use as hand-outs and projector transparencies. Users can edit, add and delete slides as needed.
This program is one that enables teachers and students to prepare presentations. When used effectively, PowerPoint can really enhance teacher presentations and the overall comprehension of students. It is a program that allows teachers to present their lessons in a more dynamic way than simply lecturing and writing on the blackboard.

CHAPTER 9

CHAPTER 9  Alternative Delivery System

EXPLORE

My Opinion Matters

This activity aims for the students to be aware on how the different Alternative Delivery Systems are used in education?

This activity will be done by pair. Search for videos that show the use of any Alternative Delivery System. Write a short review regarding the video of ADS. Present the video and your review on ADS to the class. Write your review below.

Alternative Delivery System: Video Conferencing

Location: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmC4PZNbOZw

Review:

The video shows how video conferencing can be helpful as an Alternative delivery System. In an effort to provide classrooms and libraries with affordable, high-quality video conferencing, Vidyo, Inc., is currently working with U.S schools to help enhance students' learning experiences by enabling virtual classes and field trips that supplement K-12 curriculum with real world interactions via low-cost, high-quality video conferencing.
Virtual field trips give students access to people, places and experiences that were, up until now, out of the reach of public school budgets. It can be also useful for collaborative learning. However there are disadvantages and advantages when using video conferencing.
They show that even though the teacher is not inside the classroom they can record or play a live video of the teacher that teaches lesson to the class. It allows learning at a distance, allows access to information, promotes global collaboration, and also allows conduction of virtual field trips.

Experiencing ADS
This activity allows the students to experience using any Alternative Delivery System.
This activity will be done by group (5 members in each group). The students will simulate learning with the use of any alternative delivery system. Based on their extended readings on ADS, students will show the advantages, disadvantages, and effectiveness of using ADS.
Write below the synopsis of the simulation you plan to present in class.
As I presented it in class the students gave certain disadvantages and advantages regarding the video conferencing Alternative Delivery System. Here they are: Advantages:
1. No time constraint: Video conferencing can be conducted at any time of the day.
2. Easy communication: People can use video conferencing to communicate with anyone with video and other collaboration tools such as whiteboard, text exchange, file sharing, media sharing, screen sharing, remote control, electronic voting, conference recording etc.
3. Increased productivity: By eliminating time and district barriers, meetings can be hold anytime, anywhere with anyone.
Disadvantages:
1. Lack of personal interaction: Some meetings require a personal touch to be successful. Video conferencing can be less personal than meeting face to face, and it can be possible to miss out on vital body language when you’re struggling with a pixelated image or stuttering video.
2. Technical problems: The major disadvantages are the technical difficulties associated with smooth transmissions that could result from software, hardware or network failure. Remote connections are sometimes known to be hampered by environmental changes
